Monday, April 28th, is Workers’ Memorial Day. A day where unions, brothers, sisters and others get together to mourn the loss of those who have lost their lives due to a workplace injury. This past year, 22 workers in Maine lost their lives while at work. In a moving event on Friday evening, at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston, Maine, the Western Maine Labor Council honored those who have passed away on the job. As each name was read, the death bell rang for that fallen worker, while a member in attendance at the event stood holding the fallen worker’s name tag as a brief remembrance.
As a humbling tribute, we note the names of those who have lost their lives while on the job this past year. May they rest in peace.
